Helen, Shropshire: lives in a 100-year-old detached stone farmhouse
[.text-size-large]“I had previously built a small house as eco-friendly as possible but didn’t install a heat pump as I was unsure about them.
But I learnt through [sustainability charity] Lightfoot and Stretton Climate Care, a local group focused on technology which has an excellent website. I also went to see a heat pump in real life.”[.text-size-large]
“I originally had a coal-fired Rayburn boiler and it is a very different tech to a heat pump! Coal is simple but lots of work – with the heat pump I just leave it alone. The installer showed me how to set the thermostat a couple of times. The installer put in new radiators.
It is the first time in its entire life that the house has been warm and dry, and the water is always warm.
Do what you can on insulation and take local recommendations. Installers are hard to find in some areas, so bear that in mind.”
